Obituary - David BarrDavid was the inaugural Commodore of the Canterbury Outboard Boating Club when the Club was formed in 1974 and held this position until 1981. He was a very resourceful person with very good ideas on how to make the Club progress and he also provided meeting rooms at the NAC lecture centre that was next door to the flight simulator training centre. He served on the committee for a number of years and in 1981 was elected to the position of Patron of the Canterbury Outboard Boating Club that he held up to his death. David and Phyl and their daughter Pip attended the club outings and functions in the early years and over the 30 years the club has been running David and Phyl attended the AGM and Commodores Shout in December each year and the Annual Dinner and prize giving. He was made a life Member of the Canterbury Outboard Boating Club in 1990 He donated the David Barr cup for Water safety that is awarded each year to a club member David was the club representative to the New Zealand Trailer Boat Federation from 1976 and was elected President in 1981 and still held that position in 1983 when the COBC hosted the National Conference of the N Z Trailer Boat Federation at Christchurch in July 1983. People like David Barr are a real asset to any organization and as we know contributed a lot to Boating and Water safety along with running of the club and at a National level through the N Z Trailer Boat Federation. David was always a cheery and pleasant person who greeted every body he met with a smile.
