Joining the NZTBF

Joining the New Zealand Trailer Boat Federation

Why become a member?

The principal benefit for you and your club in belonging to the NZTBF is that you become part of a much larger united voice. The bigger the voice the more influence there seems to be with issues which could affect us all.

For example pleasure boat registration would most likely affect all craft, amateur fishing rights will affect all amateur fishing and skipper licensing laws won’t necessarily be limited to just trailered craft skippers.

Is your club’s voice loud enough on its own ?

Who can be a member?

New Zealand Trailer Boat Federation membership is open to any affiliated boating club with similar objects to those of the NZTBF.

Membership is not open to individuals, however every member of an affiliated Club is, by virtue of their membership to that club, also a member of the Federation.

What does it cost to be a member?

Membership of the NZTBF costs around $1-30 per club member per year. If the NZTBF has been nominated to represent your club on the New Zealand Recreational Fishing Council (NZRFC), then there is an additional NZRFC levy of around $1-00 per club member per year.

Compare this to the cost of a litre of petrol or a can of beer !*@

·        Loan Fund. The Federation has a long established fund, from which member clubs can borrow on most reasonable terms. This has been used in the past for clubroom extensions, refurbishing, and boat-ramp upgrades along with many other worthy causes. Click here to view the conditions for loaning from the NZTBF loan fund.

·        A Discount Fuel card gives members a cost-effective way of purchasing fuel. The card is available to all members for private or fleet use. Contact the NZTBF Secretary for discount fuel card application forms.

·        Accredited Coastguard Education Tutors are available to member clubs for Restricted Radio,  Day Skipper and Boat Master courses, on a cost only basis, with tutors usually giving their time. Several clubs have already made use of this education service with a 100% success rate. Contact the NZTBF Secretary for details of tutoring facilities.

·        Reciprocal Rights agreements between Member Clubs by way of the use of ramps, boat wash, tow vehicle security and often bar facilities. This interactive arrangement is well used over the summer holiday period. Contact the individual affiliated club to enquire about facilities and conditions of use.

·        NZRFC Representation is optional for member clubs who are too small to fund their own representation on the New Zealand Recreational Fishing Council.

·        The Federation has also been able to assist clubs with environmental issues that are not in the club or communities’ best interest.
